Maggie and I flew to Minneapolis for the Labor day weekend and visited with her sister Jean Stanley (posing with her new VW Passat). Our flight was from Reagan National (Washington, DC) to Midway (Chicago, IL) for a 3 hour layover before continuing to Minneapolis/St. Paul (MN). We arrived Thursday night around 6:30 and Jean picked us up at the airport. We had supper at a local restaurant called "The Smiling Moose".

Saturday morning we headed to the Mall of America to get a shuttle bus to the
Minnesota State Fair. We arrived at noon and stayed about 7 hours, eating our
way through the displays, vendors, rides, etc.

Just about every food item was served "on a stick". The pork chops were superb, and the Pronto pups were a corn dog with a special batter coating (both served on a stick). Other items included alligator on a stick, fried candy bar on a stick (batter coated), cheese balls on a stick, and scotch meatballs on a stick (?).

In the Agricultural building we found the annual seed art contest entries. On the left is the Best of Show, on the right Mrs. Coulton demonstrates how the seeds are applied one at a time. She was working on a rooster at the time.

There were all kinds of scare-crows, like this bikini clad beauty. The flowers were beautiful and unusual, like this blue one.

Albert, the alligator was a star at the reptile booth (not on a stick!). A chicken delivery van really looks like "Fast Food".

We slept in late on Saturday to prepare for a small party that night. Jean had invited
some friends over for a cook-out so we made hamburger patties and Margueritta mix.

Jim, Sally, Pam, Jean, Bruce and Maggie.
All smiles after a couple of drinks each!
A splendid time was had by all.
