We drove about an hour north of Tampa to see the famous water show. Maggie and I had seen specials about the mermaids for years. In one section they had photos of famous people that had come to the show, including Arthur Godfrey, Don Knotts, even Elvis. The original park had been designed by a stunt man who doubled for Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan). He used it to perfect underwater action scenes. |

The park has a boat ride that gives you a tour of the spring that feeds the water theater. There are many different types of birds that frequent the shores, such as these pelicans and wood storks. We also saw otters and a raccoon, but I was using the video camera at that time. Sorry, but ask me about my Florida travel movie.....

The mermaids performed four underwater numbers, the last a salute to America with the song "Proud to be an American". The ladies were very talented and graceful.

Two guys, two mermaids. Mine's a little warmer, but Dad seems happy.

This is the first banana tree I've ever seen growing in the wild, so to speak. It's in the park near the gift shop where we spent some time and money.

The real reason I came to Florida was to get a little tail. This was the only day Maggie went topless at the beach. Sitting there, I thought I'd been given the shaft, but it was really a trident. We looked like Ike & Tina Tuna. Hey, I'm floundering here!

There is also a water slide and swimming area at Weeki-Wachi,
but it was closed (too early/late in the season?).
